Paraguay declares public holiday after World Cup win over Germany

Paraguay declared June 30 a public holiday after its national team knocked Germany out of the 2026 World Cup on penalties and moved into the last 16.
The decision came after Paraguay beat Germany 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in normal time during the round of 32, the first knockout stage of the tournament.

Historic win turns into national holiday
Paraguayan President Santiago Pena announced that June 30 would be marked as an official public holiday after the result, which was described as a historic victory for the country.

Paraguay moves on as Germany exits
The match was part of the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
With the win, Paraguay advanced to the last 16, while Germany was eliminated from the tournament after losing the penalty shootout.
