Fatih Terim, who last managed Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League before leaving the club at the end of last season, has been without a team for several months.

According to multiple sources, including Fanatik and AS, Czech sporting director Pavel Nedved is keen to see the veteran coach lead the national side.

The connection between the two dates back to their time together at Al-Shabab, where Nedved briefly worked in a senior football operations role.

This prior relationship is cited as a major reason why Terim has emerged as a candidate.

Nedved’s response

Czechia is set to face San Marino in a friendly on Nov. 13 and Gibraltar in a World Cup qualifier on Nov. 17. Ahead of these matches, Nedved was asked at a press conference whether Terim was among the names he had proposed for the head coach position.

He avoided confirming the reports, saying:

“This is neither the place nor the time for that question. Jaroslav Kostl is here, and it would be inappropriate for me to speculate about any names we may or may not have contacted. You know how things work in the national team setup; there’s very little time to make big changes. What matters now is how we perform and keep our second place in the group.”

Nedved added that discussions about the team’s direction would take place once the qualification campaign ends:

“Let’s wait until the end of the qualifiers. After that, we’ll have enough time to sit down and talk about the future. There’s no pressure to rush anything.”
