Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray has reportedly added Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves to its list of winter transfer targets as it seeks to reinforce its midfield for domestic and European competitions, Turkish media reported.

The 28-year-old holding midfielder remains on the radar of European clubs despite his move to the Saudi Pro League, and the Turkish side has also turned its attention to him in a bid to secure a winter transfer.

Galatasaray well-placed as Neves considers European move

Neves’s contract with Al-Hilal is set to expire at the end of the current season, and sources close to the matter indicate that the midfielder is preparing to leave Saudi Arabia.

Despite playing in a deep midfield role, he has scored three goals in eight matches this season, with his set-piece abilities continuing to stand out.

Neves is open to returning to a more competitive European league and is particularly receptive to offers from clubs participating in the Champions League. This puts Galatasaray in a favorable position, should negotiations advance, Turkish sports daily Fanatik reported.

Anguissa, Onyedika among Galatasaray's shortlist

Neves rose through the youth system of FC Porto before transferring to English club Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017 for a reported fee of €18 million.

During his six years in the Premier League, he became a central figure at Wolves. In 2023, he made a high-profile switch to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal for a transfer fee of €55 million.

The club, which currently competes in the Turkish Super Lig and UEFA Champions League, had previously been linked with other midfielders such as Andre-Frank Anguissa, Raphael Onyedika, and Strahinja Pavlovic.
