Kethuda's win came alongside a bronze medal for teammate Nurselen Yalgettekin in the women's 48kg category. Teammate Samet Gumus also received a medal at the ceremony, though the source material does not specify his weight class or medal color.
Kethuda, 19, is from the Arakli district of Trabzon, a city on Türkiye's Black Sea coast. By her own count, the gold is her sixth or seventh title in four years of competing in boxing. She said her team trained together since the start of the year to prepare for the tournament.
"We worked hard together with the team and our coaches," Kethuda said. "I am very happy and proud to be returning to my country with a gold medal."
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Kethuda to congratulate her on the win, according to officials from the Turkish Boxing Federation. Kethuda said it was the first time she had spoken with the president.
Yalgettekin, who competed in her first senior European Championships, said she was pleased with her result and was already preparing for next year's World Championships.
Kethuda said she and her teammates intend to keep training toward future titles.
