Turkish grandmaster Erdogmus defeats world no. 5 at Tata Steel Chess Tournament

Fourteen-year-old Turkish Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus defeated Arjun Erigaisi, the world’s fifth-ranked chess player, at the 2026 Tata Steel Chess Tournament.

The victory occurred in the seventh round of the tournament, held in Wijk aan Zee, one of the most prestigious events on the international chess calendar.

Erdogmus increased his score to 4 points and secured fourth place among 14 grandmasters competing in the Masters category.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Feb. 1, 2026, with the thirteenth round of matches.
