Turkish national chess player Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus finished seventh at the 2026 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, one of the world’s most prestigious chess events, held in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Chess Federation, Erdogmus competed in the Masters category of the tournament, which was played over 13 rounds. The young grandmaster scored 7 points, securing seventh place among an elite field of international competitors.
Türkiye Chess Federation President Fethi Apaydin congratulated Erdogmus on his achievement, emphasizing its significance for Turkish chess.
“This ranking achieved by Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus at the 2026 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, is extremely significant in demonstrating the progress of Turkish chess,” Apaydin said. “Despite his young age, his competitive and consistent performance against top-level opponents has made us proud. We firmly believe that his successes will continue.”
Apaydin also highlighted the contribution of Erdogmus’s family, noting their long-standing support and sacrifices in nurturing his talent from an early age and extended congratulations to everyone who contributed to his development.
