Turkish rider Can Oncu secured a podium finish in the first race of the Italian round of the World Supersport Championship, completing the 18-lap contest in third place.

The race took place at the Misano Circuit, which hosted the seventh round of the championship calendar over the weekend.

Oncu, who rides for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate, started the race from pole position, meaning he began from the leading spot on the grid after setting the best qualifying performance.

Although Oncu began the race from the front, the battle for victory remained close until the final stages. French rider Valentin Debise won the race after making a decisive move on the last lap.

Spanish rider Albert Arenas, the current championship leader, crossed the finish line in second place, while Oncu completed the podium in third.

Second race set for Sunday

The Italian round will continue with the weekend’s second World Supersport race, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. Türkiye time.
