Turkish national volleyball player Ece Hitayca, 22, has asked an Istanbul court to impose a jail sentence on a man accused of continuing to stalk and harass her online despite an existing restraining order, according to Turkish daily Hurriyet.

Hitayca, a middle blocker for Kuzeyboru in Türkiye's top-tier women's volleyball competition, the Sultanlar League, had previously secured a two-month protective order against Taner K. after reporting persistent social media harassment and expressing concerns for her personal safety.

Court order fails to stop alleged online harassment

According to the report, Taner K. repeatedly monitored Hitayca's social media activity and shared content that suggested the two were in a romantic relationship.

Hitayca said the alleged harassment subjected her to psychological abuse and prompted her to seek legal protection.

An Istanbul family court subsequently ordered Taner K. to refrain from threatening, insulting, humiliating or contacting the athlete through communication channels. The ruling also prohibited him from approaching her home or workplace for two months.

However, despite the restrictions, Taner K. allegedly continued his activities by setting up a TikTok account under the username "@tnrkrgl01."

The account reportedly featured a profile picture combining his name with Hitayca's, alongside a heart symbol, creating the public impression of a romantic relationship.

Lawyer seeks detention

Following the alleged breach, Hitayca's lawyer returned to court and requested "zorlama hapsi," a form of coercive detention under Turkish law used to enforce compliance with protective measures.

The lawyer argued that Taner K. had disregarded the existing court order and continued to put psychological pressure on the athlete through digital harassment, persistent monitoring and unwanted contact.

The application calls for a detention period of three to 10 days over the alleged violation.

The report did not indicate whether the court had ruled on the latest request.
