Turkish wrestling earned 121 points to finish second overall in the Greco-Roman team rankings at the European Wrestling Championships in Tirana.
Azerbaijan claimed the team title with 133 points, while Georgia placed third with 118 points.
Türkiye’s Greco-Roman squad collected one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals across the competition, marking a strong overall performance.
One of the standout moments of the championship came in the 130 kg category, where Riza Kayaalp secured the gold medal. With this victory, Kayaalp earned his 13th European championship title, setting a new record in European wrestling history.
Murat Firat (67 kg) won the silver medal, while Kerem Kamal (63 kg) and Cengiz Arslan (72 kg) each earned bronze medals. Several other Turkish wrestlers finished in fifth place in their respective weight categories.
Turkish Wrestling Federation President Taha Akgul praised the team’s performance, describing the championship as a successful campaign overall. He noted that Turkish wrestlers competed in medal matches in seven of the ten weight categories, highlighting continued progress ahead of upcoming international events, including the World Championships.
Following the conclusion of the Greco-Roman events, athletes from Türkiye and Azerbaijan shared a joint photograph, reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and close relations between the two nations’ wrestling teams.
