The Türkiye Cycling Federation will mark World Bicycle Day on June 3 with simultaneous events across all 81 provinces, bringing together thousands of people to pedal for sport, health, the environment, climate awareness and a more sustainable future.
The nationwide program, coordinated through the federation’s provincial representatives, aims to promote cycling not only as a sport but also as a daily habit linked to cleaner transport, healthier lifestyles and stronger social participation.
World Bicycle Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 to highlight the role of the bicycle as an affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally friendly means of transport.
The day also draws attention to cycling as a tool that supports sustainable development, encourages active living and helps cities move toward more livable urban models. In Türkiye, this year’s events will place that message at the center of a broad public awareness campaign.
As part of the program, school events will introduce students to cycling through meetings held under the theme “Bicycle and Life.” Students will learn about bicycle-based transport, healthy living, environmental awareness and safe riding.
The sessions will also touch on examples of cycling culture in Türkiye and around the world, as well as the possible role of bicycles during disasters and emergencies. Bicycle maintenance activities, awareness work and award-based events will be used to help students build up a stronger connection with cycling.
The federation will also encourage students to join the day through the call “Come to School by Bicycle,” promoting cycling as part of daily life from an early age.
City rides will be held with the participation of cycling associations, clubs, nongovernmental organizations and local residents. Across Türkiye, the shared message will be: “We are pedaling on June 3 World Bicycle Day.”
With events taking place simultaneously across the country, the federation aims to turn World Bicycle Day into a nationwide awareness movement. Children, young people, families and volunteer cyclists are expected to ride together under a common message focused on health, the environment and sustainability.
Türkiye Cycling Federation President Emin Muftuoglu said World Bicycle Day offered an important opportunity to remember the value cycling brings to individuals, cities and the future.
“A bicycle is not just a sports tool; it is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, eco-friendly transportation, and sustainable cities," Muftuoglu said.
He added that the federation would celebrate the day in all 81 provinces with broad participation from children, young people, families and cycling communities.
On June 3, pedals across Türkiye’s 81 provinces will turn for health, the environment and a sustainable future, carrying the federation’s call for healthier people, more livable cities and a cleaner world.
