Türkiye’s National Women’s Basketball Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s European Championship after defeating Greece 83-72 on Saturday, securing second place in Group A with a 2-1 record.
Greece took advantage of Türkiye’s early turnovers and focused on scoring inside the paint in the opening quarter, while the Turkish side responded with accurate three-point shooting. The host nation closed the first quarter ahead 21-17..
Türkiye began the second quarter with a surge, led by back-to-back baskets from Alperi Onar. With strong contributions from Tilbe Senyurek and Sevgi Uzun, the team went on a 16-2 run, stretching the lead to 43-32 with two minutes left in the half.
Improved ball movement and tighter defense allowed Türkiye to enter halftime with a 43-35 advantage.
Greece responded at the start of the third quarter, with Spanou scoring consecutive baskets to tie the game at 45-45. Led by Parks, the Greek side took a 55-50 lead midway through the period as Türkiye struggled offensively. However, fast-break points helped Türkiye rally to regain control, ending the quarter ahead 62-59.
In the final period, Türkiye tightened its defense and found rhythm on offense, limiting Greece’s scoring opportunities. Accurate long-range shooting helped the national team pull away and seal the 83-72 victory.
Türkiye will face the winner of Group B in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, June 24.
