Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team has written history, advancing to the final of the FIVB Women’s World Volleyball Championship for the first time. In the semifinal clash, Türkiye defeated Japan 3–1 to secure their place in Sunday’s title match.
Their opponent in the final will be determined by the outcome of the Italy vs Brazil semifinal.
Throughout the tournament, Sultans of the Net showcased dominance and resilience. In the group stage, they overcame Spain, Bulgaria, and Canada without dropping a set.
The Round of 16 brought a straight-sets victory over Slovenia, while in the quarterfinals, Türkiye overcame the United States 3–1—the only match where they conceded a set on their way to the semifinals.
The semifinal against Japan began with a setback, as Türkiye lost the opening set 25–16. However, the team quickly regained control, winning the second set 25–17 and the third 25–18. The fourth set turned into a dramatic battle, with Türkiye eventually closing it out 27–25 to seal the 3–1 victory and a historic first-ever berth in the World Championship final.
Türkiye first appeared in the Women’s World Volleyball Championship in 2006 and has since participated in every edition held every four years. Reaching the final in 2025 marks the highest achievement in the nation’s history in the competition and reflects the rise of Turkish volleyball on the global stage.
