Türkiye was defeated 87-71 by Australia on Sunday in its second Group C match at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026, leaving the team winless through two games, while Australia remains undefeated at 2-0.
Türkiye got off to a slow start, trailing 10-2, but rallied to take a 15-14 lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Australia responded in the closing stages and ended the opening period with a 21-15 advantage.
Australia extended its lead to 10 points in the second quarter, prompting Türkiye to call a timeout with the score at 28-18.
Türkiye continued to struggle offensively after the timeout, although Sevgi Uzun hit Türkiye's first three-point shot of the game with 3:45 remaining in the quarter.
Australia was ahead 40-30 at halftime.
Steph Talbot led Australia with nine points and four rebounds in the first half, while Uzun had 10 points, four assists and three steals for Türkiye.
Türkiye started the third quarter strongly and cut the deficit to 44-38. The Turkish side then reduced Australia's lead to five points at 48-43, but Australia regained control and finished the quarter ahead 67-55.
Australia opened the final period strongly, extending its lead to 76-59.
When Australia's advantage reached 19 points, Türkiye called a timeout with 5:42 remaining on the game clock.
Türkiye continued to struggle offensively after the timeout as Australia controlled the closing minutes.
Uzun finished as the game's leading scorer with 24 points, while Australia's Ezi Magbegor scored 21 points, including 10 in the third quarter.
Türkiye must beat Puerto Rico on Monday in its final Group C game to keep its hopes of advancing alive.
