Türkiye reaches European volleyball semifinals after 3-1 win over Germany

Türkiye’s national women’s volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the CEV Women's European Volleyball Championship on Thursday after defeating Germany 3-1.

The Crescent-Stars started strongly behind Vargas, forcing Germany to take its second timeout while Türkiye led 15-10.

Türkiye did not allow Germany to narrow the gap and won the first set 25-18.

Germany opened the second set better, taking a 6-1 lead as Türkiye struggled defensively and called the first timeout of the set.

The Crescent-Stars recovered after the timeout and tried to close the gap, but Germany continued to score.

Türkiye reduced the deficit to two points through captain Eda Erdem at the net and Derya Cebecioglu on the opposite side, but Germany avoided mistakes in critical moments and took the set 25-22 to level the match at 1-1.

Vargas leads Türkiye in decisive fourth set

The third set began with balanced play, but Türkiye, backed by strong fan support, made fewer mistakes and built a seven-point lead at 14-7, prompting Germany to call a timeout.

The Crescent-Stars maintained their momentum and won the third set 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set remained close.

With Vargas’ effective serves and scoring, Türkiye moved ahead 16-13, forcing Germany to call a timeout.

Germany responded with three consecutive points after the break to tie the set at 16-16, leading Türkiye to call a timeout.

From that point, Türkiye went on a 5-0 run, with Vargas again coming to the fore in the final stretch.

The Crescent-Stars won the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1 to secure a place in the semifinals.

Türkiye will face Serbia on Saturday, Sept. 5, for a place in the final.
