Türkiye's women's national volleyball team defeated Serbia 3-0 on Saturday to reach the final of the Trendyol 2026 CEV European Championship, advancing from the semifinal at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall in Istanbul.

The result sent Türkiye into Sunday's title match, where the team will face either Poland or Italy. The winner of that semifinal will be confirmed later Saturday.

Türkiye completes straight-sets victory

Türkiye opened strongly, with Eda Erdem Dundar and Melissa Vargas driving the attack as the team took the first set 25-20.

Serbia responded early in the second, but Türkiye moved ahead 7-3 behind a Zehra Gunes block. Serbia leveled at 12-12 after Vargas was called for a three-meter-line violation, before Türkiye pulled away late. Eda Erdem Dundar's spike made it 23-17, and the team closed out the set 25-19.

After Türkiye went 2-1 ahead, Serbia coach Zoran Terzic challenged a point. The call went in Türkiye's favor, and Terzic received a yellow card after continuing to protest.

Türkiye then raced to a 4-0 lead in the third set through a Vargas spike. Eda Erdem Dundar's tip made it 10-3, while an Elif Sahin tip put Türkiye up 20-14.

Türkiye won the third set 25-20 to complete the 3-0 sweep and reach the European Championship final.

Türkiye's volleyball history

Türkiye's women's national volleyball team has emerged as one of Europe's leading sides, with a string of major international successes in recent years.

The team won the European Championship and Volleyball Nations League in 2023, then reached new heights at the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship. Türkiye reached its first World Championship final after beating Japan 3-1 in the semifinals and went on to take silver after a 3-2 loss to Italy.

Türkiye added another major title in 2026, defeating Brazil 3-1 in the Volleyball Nations League final to win the competition for the second time. The result marked Türkiye's second VNL title after its 2022 triumph.

The team's latest run to the European Championship final adds another major achievement to a period of sustained success on the international stage.
