Türkiye’s national wrestlers claimed two medals at the 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia. Ibrahim Metehan Yaprak won silver in the 79-kilogram freestyle category, while Hakan Buyukcingil earned bronze in the 125-kilogram division.
Representing Türkiye in the men’s freestyle 79-kg class, Ibrahim Metehan Yaprak advanced to the final after defeating Belarusian wrestler Nikita Dmitriyevs Mayeuski 5–2 in the semifinals.
In the gold medal bout, Yaprak faced American competitor Levi David Haines but fell short, taking home the silver medal.
In the heavyweight 125-kg category, Türkiye’s Hakan Buyukcingil secured the bronze medal after defeating American wrestler Daniel Paul Herrera in the third-place match, adding another success to the national team’s tally.
According to the latest standings, Türkiye ranked fifth in the men’s freestyle team classification with 65 points.
The United States led with 122 points, followed by Iran (112), Russia (85), and Japan (75).
The 2025 U23 World Championships, organized in Novi Sad from Oct. 24 to 27, gathered the world’s top young wrestlers in one of the sport’s most competitive international events.
