The 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship opens Wednesday in Chuncheon, a city in South Korea's Gangwon province located roughly 75 kilometers (47 miles) northeast of the capital, Seoul.
According to a statement from the Turkish Taekwondo Federation, the tournament will run from Sept. 16 to 20 and will host 1,417 athletes from 83 countries.
Poomsae is a pattern-based taekwondo discipline in which athletes perform choreographed sequences of stances, strikes and blocks.
Judges score competitors on accuracy, balance, rhythm and power rather than direct contact between opponents, distinguishing it from taekwondo's sparring discipline, known as kyorugi. Poomsae has been contested as an official World Taekwondo competition category since 2006.
Türkiye will be represented by 36 athletes competing across 30 different disciplines at the championship.
The competitions will be broadcast live on the "World Taekwondo" YouTube channel.
