Türkiye secured a spot in the semifinals of the FIBA U20 European Championship Division B with a commanding 81-61 win over the Netherlands on Friday.
The quarterfinal match was held at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, Armenia. Türkiye started strong and took a 24-15 lead after the first quarter.
Despite a push from the Dutch side in the second quarter, Türkiye maintained its composure and went into halftime with a narrow 39-36 lead.
Türkiye turned up the intensity after the break, especially on the defensive end. The team allowed just 9 points in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 66-45 heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Türkiye continued to control the tempo and never let the gap shrink, cruising to an 81-61 win.
Melih Tunca led all scorers with 20 points while also adding 11 assists and 8 rebounds, nearly notching a triple-double. Ozgur Cengiz added 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists to support the effort.
With the win, Türkiye will face Croatia in the semifinals. The match is scheduled for July 19 at 4:30 p.m. (GMT +3).
