Türkiye fell five places to 27th in the FIFA world rankings released this month, as World Cup champion Spain climbed to the top of the standings.
According to the July rankings published by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Türkiye's national team recorded 1582 points, dropping five spots from 22nd in the previous ranking period. It marks the first rankings update since the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Among Türkiye's rivals in the UEFA Nations League A group, France ranked third with 1948 points, Belgium finished eighth with 1778 points, and Italy placed 15th with 1704 points.
Spain moved into first place with 1995 points, following its 2024 European Championship title and its subsequent triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. World Cup finalist Argentina ranked second with 1970 points, ahead of France in third, England in fourth with 1922 points, and Brazil in fifth with 1804 points.
The rankings update follows the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, which also produced a final tournament standings list separate from the overall FIFA rankings.
Spain won the tournament by defeating Argentina in the final, which subsequently finished as runner-up. England secured third place by winning the third-place match, leaving France in fourth.
Norway, one of the tournament's surprise performers, finished fifth in the tournament standings, followed by Belgium in sixth.
Morocco and Switzerland shared seventh place. Among the host nations, Mexico finished ninth and Colombia placed tenth.
Brazil finished 11th, the United States 12th, Portugal 13th and Canada 14th, all falling short of pre-tournament expectations.
Germany, eliminated by Paraguay in the round of 16, placed 18th, while the Netherlands, eliminated by Morocco, finished 17th.
Türkiye completed the 48-team tournament in 35th place, finishing ahead of Scotland and Uruguay and behind South Korea
At the bottom of the tournament standings, Qatar finished 41st after collecting one point in the group stage, followed by Curacao in 42nd in its first-ever World Cup appearance.
Panama, which finished the group stage without a point, placed 43rd, ahead of Jordan in 44th, Haiti in 45th, Uzbekistan in 46th, Tunisia in 47th and Iraq in 48th.
FIFA updates its world rankings regularly using results from international matches, with the list used as a reference for World Cup qualifying draws and other tournament seedings.
Spain's double achievement, winning both the European Championship and the World Cup within the space of two years, places the team firmly ahead of the rest of the field, with a gap of 25 points separating it from second-placed Argentina.
