Türkiye's national track cycling team wrapped up the IV. Budapest GP in Hungary with four medals, led by Ramazan Yilmaz, who claimed one gold and two silvers across three disciplines.
Yilmaz won the men's Elimination event before finishing second in both the Points Race and Omnium, while teammate Mustafa Tarakci added another silver in the Elimination race. The results gave Türkiye one gold and three silver medals at the UCI Class 2 competition held in Budapest on August 11–12.
The performances also brought in valuable UCI ranking points as the national team works toward qualifying for the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Championships, which will take place in Shanghai, China, from October 14–18.
Türkiye took the top two places in the Elimination race, a track cycling discipline in which the last rider across the line at designated intervals is progressively removed from the competition.
Yilmaz finished first to secure gold, while Tarakci came in second for silver, putting two Turkish riders on the first two steps of the podium.
Yilmaz then carried his form into the Points Race, where riders collect points through intermediate sprints and other scoring opportunities during the event. He finished second to pick up his first silver medal of the Budapest GP.
He followed that result with another second-place finish in the Omnium, a multi-event track cycling competition, completing the meeting with three podium appearances in three different disciplines.
The Budapest GP was part of the 2026 calendars of the International Cycling Union, known as the UCI, and the Turkish Cycling Federation. As a UCI Class 2 event, it formed part of Türkiye's wider effort to collect points needed in its campaign to reach the world championships in Shanghai.
The Elimination, Points Race and Omnium events in which Yilmaz earned medals in Budapest are also included in the UCI Track Cycling World Championships program.
Turkish Cycling Federation President Emin Muftuoglu said the performances showed the progress being made in track cycling and highlighted the importance of the results in the qualification campaign.
"Our athletes' performances and the medals they have won on the international stage in track cycling make us proud. Ramazan Yilmaz reaching the podium in three different disciplines and winning gold, as well as taking the top two places in the Elimination race together with Mustafa Tarakci, are very valuable," Muftuoglu said.
He added that the team's next major objective was the world championships in Shanghai, saying the medals and points collected in Budapest formed an important part of that campaign.
"Our goal is to represent our country in the strongest possible way in Shanghai and turn our rise in track cycling into sustainable success," he said.
