UEFA has suspended Fenerbahce’s Colombian striker Jhon Duran for two matches following his red card in last week’s Europa League game against Ferencvaros.

The decision came from UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on Friday.

Duran received the red card in the 90+1 minute of the fifth group stage match, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Istanbul.

He had entered the game in the second half and was sent off shortly before the final whistle.

The suspension means the 21-year-old will not play in Fenerbahce’s upcoming Europa League fixtures against Brann and his former club Aston Villa.

What suspension means for Fenerbahce?

Duran has appeared in three Europa League matches for Fenerbahce this season. He has not scored in European competition so far.

Domestic and Europa League appearances combined show that he has played 12 matches for the club this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Fenerbahce drew 1-1 with Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the match in which Duran received a red card. The draw left the Istanbul club with dropped points late in the group stage, and the loss of Duran adds pressure ahead of the final two games.

Fenerbahce now prepares to face Norwegian side Brann before meeting Aston Villa, where Duran previously played. The club will need to adjust its attacking options in the absence of the Colombian forward.

Coach and squad decisions for the next matches will depend on Fenerbahce’s attempt to secure progression from the group. The team will look to avoid further setbacks as the group stage reaches its final phase.
