A British television commentator's on-air confusion between two of hip-hop's most recognizable figures became one of the more talked-about moments at Sunday's 2026 FIFA World Cup final, as a celebrity-packed MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., provided the backdrop for an embarrassing case of mistaken identity, and a wave of online ridicule.
With the eyes of the world on the New York area for the match between Argentina and Spain, a clip captured by the Hip Hop All Day account on X showed a U.K. broadcaster misidentifying Pharrell Williams as A$AP Rocky when the veteran producer appeared on screen.
"I think that's AKA Rocky. Or A$AP Rocky, sorry... I think..." the commentator said before correcting himself, though still getting the identification wrong.

Rocky, who was raised in Harlem and has long been associated with New York's cultural identity, had even more reason to celebrate the city this summer: the New York Knicks claimed their first NBA championship in 53 years earlier this season, ending a title drought that stretched back to 1973.
