Ghanaian traditional priest Nana Kwaku Bonsam has stirred controversy after claiming that he has placed a curse on England striker Harry Kane ahead of Ghana's upcoming World Cup match against England.

Bonsam, described in the report as a Ghanaian witch doctor, said the ritual was intended to affect Kane's performance and help Ghana in the high-profile encounter.

Claim aimed at disrupting Kane, not causing serious harm

According to Bonsam, the act was not meant to seriously injure the England captain, but to hold him back during the match.

"I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country. I will do my work so that it can help Ghana."

The claim adds an unusual layer of controversy to the build-up before Ghana faces England, with Kane placed at the center of the story because of his role as England's leading striker and captain.

Spiritualist repeats bold tournament claims

Bonsam has previously made similar bold claims during other major international tournaments, according to the report.

His latest remarks again link football, national rivalry and traditional spiritual practices, as Ghana prepare for a match that has now drawn attention beyond the pitch.
