Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez has been drawn against American world No. 29 Ann Li in the opening round of the Wimbledon Championships, scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 12 at the All England Club.
Sonmez, ranked No. 54 in the world, will begin her campaign at the season’s third Grand Slam with a challenging encounter against the seeded American player.
The two players have previously met on the WTA Tour at the Merida Open, where Zeynep Sonmez defeated Ann Li 6–2, 6–1 in the 2024 final. In 2026, Sonmez again overcame the third seed in the second round of the WTA 500 event in Merida to advance to the quarterfinals.
Sonmez has shown encouraging form in Grand Slam competition this season, reaching the third round of the Australian Open before exiting in the opening round of the French Open.
