Protesters in Tel Aviv call on Netanyahu to resign
Protesters in Tel Aviv demand fresh elections, expressing frustration with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the situation and his reluctance to engage in cease-fire talks
Protesters expressing discontent with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have flooded the streets of Tel Aviv, calling for fresh elections amid Israel’s ongoing war on Palestine.
Netanyahu’s popularity has dwindled as the conflict persists, despite a decline in anti-government protests following the Oct. 7 attacks.
Despite mounting pressure, Netanyahu has dismissed demands for early elections as thousands continue to rally in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, urging his resignation.
Although anti-government protests had waned during the war, demonstrators resurfaced on Saturday night, advocating for new polls, which aren’t slated until 2026.
In Tel Aviv, thousands defied a police prohibition on large gatherings, though the turnout was notably smaller than last year’s mass demonstrations, as reported by local media.
The demonstrators voiced outrage over Netanyahu’s refusal to send a representative to Cairo for talks on ending the Gaza conflict. Despite efforts by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt to broker a cease-fire and secure the release of captives, negotiations have stalled due to substantial gaps between Israel’s and Hamas’ demands. Qatar noted on Saturday that the talks had not progressed as anticipated.
