Türkiye’s unemployment rate declines to 3.06 million in March 2024, at 8.6%. While employment rises to 32.59 million, youth unemployment falls to 15.1%
The number of unemployed people in Türkiye decreased by 19,000 to 3.57 million in March 2024, while the unemployment rate fell by 0.1% to 8.6%, according to the household budget survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and released on Friday.
The number of employed persons increased by 139,000 compared to the previous month to 32.59 million, while the employment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 49.5%.
It is noteworthy that the employment rate was 66.9% for men and 32.5% for women.
The labor force increased by 121,000 people to 35.65 million, and the labor force participation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 54.2%. This rate was 71.8% for men and 36.9% for women.
The youth unemployment rate, which affects individuals in the 15 to 24 age group, decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 15.1%. In contrast, the rate for men and women in this group was estimated at 11.7% and 21.2%, respectively.
Moreover, the idle labor force ratio, which includes time-dependent underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment, decreased by 0.4 percentage points month-on-month to 24.1% in March 2024.
In terms of integrated rates, the ratio of time-related underemployment and unemployment was realized as 16.1%, while the ratio of unemployed and potential labor force was realized as 17.3%.
