A 12-year-old boy was killed, and two men were wounded in a shooting outside a supermarket and deli in the Bronx on Saturday, police said.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. near Elliot Place and Walton Avenue in the Concourse Village section of the Bronx, U.S. media reported.

Police said the boy was shot in the shoulder and taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two other victims, ages 25 and 34, were also struck by gunfire and were expected to survive.

Police said the 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, while the 34-year-old man was shot in the foot. Both were listed in stable condition.

No arrests reported

Authorities had not released the boy's name, a description of the shooter, or any possible relationship between the child and the two adult victims as of Saturday night.

No arrests had been made, and the investigation remained ongoing.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

Police said it appeared the boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time when a large group got into an argument.

A witness said he heard five shots, saw a boy on a bike collapse on the sidewalk and saw the shooter drive away in a Jeep, according to U.S. media.

Video from the scene showed police officers working in the area, a bicycle lying on the ground and the block cordoned off with police tape.

Mayor condemns shooting

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a post on X that his heart breaks for the boy's family, friends and loved ones.

"Their loss is unimaginable," Mamdani said.

He said he was praying for the recovery of the two other victims and thanked hospital staff and the New York Police Department (NYPD) for their efforts to find those responsible.

"Our children should be able to ride their bikes on a nice summer day in their neighborhood without fear of being shot," Mamdani said.

"We cannot accept this violence as normal," he added.
