At least seven people were injured, and several residential and commercial buildings were damaged or set on fire after Russia launched a large-scale ballistic missile attack on Kyiv early Sunday, according to Ukrainian officials and local media.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said six of the injured were taken to hospitals, while one person received treatment at the scene.
Emergency teams also rescued five people from damaged buildings across the Ukrainian capital.
The first explosions were heard in Kyiv at about 1:30 a.m. local time as air raid alerts were activated across central and eastern Ukraine.
Further explosions were reported at about 2:09 a.m. and 2:13 a.m., with dozens of missiles reportedly launched toward the capital within approximately one hour.
Additional ballistic missile explosions shook Kyiv at about 2:38 a.m. as the attack continued.
Monitoring channels reported that 31 ballistic missiles and at least eight Zircon hypersonic missiles were directed at Kyiv during the attack.
Ukraine’s Air Force has not confirmed the total number of missiles launched.
The Air Force said several waves of ballistic missiles had been traveling toward Kyiv since about 1:24 a.m.
The repeated missile launches and explosions caused damage across several districts of the capital, including Dniprovskyi, Desnyanskyi, Solomyanskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi.
In the Dniprovskyi district, falling debris caused a fire at a dormitory, while smoke was reported near a shopping center, Klitschko said.
In the Desnyanskyi district, a strike hit the grounds of a commercial property.
Vehicle fires were also reported in the district, and a warehouse caught fire.

In the Solomyanskyi district, a Russian missile strike caused fires on the roof of a supermarket and a nearby residential building.
At another location in the district, debris fell near a nine-story residential building and shattered its windows.
Klitschko said one person was rescued from the second floor of the building.
Emergency personnel rescued four more people from a burning five-story apartment building elsewhere in the Solomyanskyi district.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, falling debris set fire to the three-story wing of an administrative building.
More than 10 parked vehicles were damaged, while windows were blown out in a nearby residential building and fires broke out in surrounding structures.
“In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the three-story wing of an administrative building is on fire as a result of falling debris. More than 10 parked cars have also been damaged,” Klitschko said.
Authorities also received reports that a residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district had been struck.
The missile barrage against Kyiv followed an overnight Ukrainian drone attack in Russia that killed eight people and injured dozens, according to Russian authorities Saturday.
In the city of Kotovsk, drones struck a warehouse operated by an online retailer, killing seven people and injuring 25, Tambov regional Gov. Evgeny Pervyshov said on Telegram.
Pervyshov said the fire at the warehouse had been extinguished, while emergency crews continued working at the site.
In the Moscow region, one person was killed, and 37 others were injured after a drone struck an online retailer’s warehouse in the city of Elektrostal, regional Gov. Andrey Vorobiev said.
Two additional people were injured in the nearby city of Noginsk.
