CNN, MS NOW and Politico asked a federal court to allow their reporters continued access to the White House until their lawsuit over President Donald Trump's ban is resolved, arguing that their temporary accreditation remains inconsistently enforced.
The three media organizations said in a court filing that although a federal judge restored their credentials for 14 days last week, access to the White House has continued to be blocked in what they described as an "unpredictable and inconsistent" manner.
They asked the court to keep the access restrictions suspended until the case reaches a conclusion.
Trump announced on Sept. 18 that CNN, MS NOW and Politico were "immediately banned" from the White House, accusing them of repeatedly producing "fake news."
The three outlets later filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the decision.
They argue that barring their reporters from the White House amounts to "a direct attack" on freedom of speech and the press protected under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
A federal judge ruled Sept. 24 that the credentials required for CNN, MS NOW and Politico to enter the White House should be restored through Oct. 8.
Politico later said that despite the ruling, one of its reporters was still denied entry to the White House.
The outlets are now seeking continued access while the broader legal challenge proceeds.
