US Representative Maria Salazar said the United States is “about to enter Venezuela,” claiming that conditions are now in place to “end the regime” of President Nicolas Maduro.

Speaking to Fox Business, Salazar alleged that Venezuelan territory is being used by “Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, Cuba, Nicaragua and enemies who hate the United States.”

She said Washington’s decision to designate the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) places the Maduro government directly in the crosshairs.

According to Salazar, the move has created the conditions necessary to “eliminate Maduro” or “go in and end his regime.”

She claimed Maduro has closed Venezuelan airspace to US aircraft because “he knows we are about to enter.”

Claims of economic motives behind a possible move

Salazar said Venezuela has the world’s largest proven oil reserves and argued that actions aimed at changing the country’s leadership would be “very good news for the US economy.”

She asserted that Venezuela represents a significant opportunity for US-based oil companies, saying economic activity tied to such involvement could exceed one trillion dollars.

“US firms could go in and improve oil fields and everything related to Venezuelan oil companies,” she said.

The US on Monday added the Cartel de los Soles, which Washington claims is led by Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials, to its FTO list.

Venezuela criticized the designation, calling it an attempt to create a pretext for intervention in the country.
