Canadian musician Neil Young has filed a $10 million lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Trump used his song “Rockin’ in the Free World” at a rally in Ohio on Oct. 12 despite a promise not to play it again at campaign events.

Young also sued “Trump 47,” the committee that organizes Trump’s rallies. The complaint says the song was played at the Ohio event, held in the Midwestern state.

Complaint calls song opposite of Trump’s stance

The filing describes the track as a fiery anthem that contrasts the empty promises of American political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by the poor, the homeless and the forgotten. It argues the song’s content is the “polar opposite of everything Donald Trump stands for.”

Broken pledge and 2020 lawsuit

Young said Trump had pledged not to use the song in an election campaign again, but did not keep his word.

Young previously sued Trump in 2020 over the use of the same song in his election campaign, but later withdrew the complaint.
