A plane crash near Tullahoma Regional Airport, Tennessee on Sunday injured multiple people, with several transported to hospitals by medical helicopter, authorities said.
The Coffee County Sheriff's Department reported the crash occurred near the airport and Old Shelbyville Highway on Sunday, June 8. The Tennessee Highway Patrol estimated 16 to 20 people were aboard the aircraft when it went down.
Emergency responders treated some injured passengers at the crash site while others required helicopter transport to area hospitals for more serious injuries, according to highway patrol officials.
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security told ABC News that only two people sustained serious injuries in the incident. Officials said no fatalities have been reported at this time.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has asked area residents to avoid the crash site to allow emergency crews to continue their response operations. Multiple agencies responded to the scene Sunday afternoon.
The Tullahoma Police Department is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash, officials said. Authorities have not released additional details about the aircraft type, flight origin or circumstances leading to the incident.
The crash occurred near the regional airport that serves the Coffee County area in south-central Tennessee, approximately 70 miles southeast of Nashville.
