US President Joe Biden blames Russian leader Vladimir Putin for death of Kremlin's most prominent critic Alexei Navalny in Arctic prison
The United States President Joe Biden on Friday called the recently deceased Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny a champion of truth as he blamed President Vladimir Putin for the reported death of the Kremlin's most prominent critic in an Arctic prison.
Saying he was "outraged" by the news, Biden said: "Make no mistake — Putin is responsible for Navalny's death. What has happened to Navalny is yet more proof of Putin's brutality. No one should be fooled."
The United States does not yet know "exactly what happened" to Navalny, Biden added.
"Even in prison he was a powerful voice for the truth," Biden said in remarks from the White House, adding that "his courage will not be forgotten."
