Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia and China have made progress on an agreement for the Power of Siberia 2 natural gas pipeline, adding that the sides had agreed on many key details.

Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Peskov said the project had not reached its final stage, but that work would continue.

“Progress has indeed been made on Power of Siberia 2, and many key details have been agreed,” Peskov said.

He said Moscow had no doubt that a concrete result would be reached soon.

Peskov cites progress on pipeline talks

Peskov said Russia and China had not yet reached the final stage of the agreement on the Power of Siberia 2 project.

However, he said the sides had made progress and that many important details had been agreed.

He added that work on the project would continue.

Peskov’s comments came after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing.

China’s role in Ukraine process

Peskov also commented on China’s role in efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis.

“China is really ready to make efforts to help move toward a peaceful settlement. We are grateful to our Chinese friends for this,” he said.

Peskov said Putin and Xi discussed Ukraine during their talks in Beijing.

However, he said China’s 2023 plan for resolving the Ukraine crisis was not discussed.

Fuel market, military claims

Asked about Russia’s fuel market after an increase in Ukrainian attacks on refineries, Peskov said production could decline in some regions.

He said part of the decline could also be linked to seasonal maintenance work.

Peskov also denied claims in Western media that some Russian soldiers were receiving training in China.
