Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday described the development of Moscow’s nuclear triad as an “absolute priority” as he marked Defender of the Fatherland Day.
“The development of the nuclear triad, which serves as a guarantee of Russia's security and effectively ensures strategic deterrence and the balance of power in the world, remains an absolute priority,” Putin said in an address shared by the Kremlin.
Putin said the nuclear triad is key to safeguarding Russia’s security and maintaining the global balance of power.
He also emphasized that Russia will continue strengthening its army and navy, taking into account developments in the international situation and combat experience gained during the Russia-Ukraine war, which enters its fifth year on Tuesday.
According to Putin, Moscow will significantly enhance the capabilities of other branches of the armed forces, increasing their combat readiness, mobility and ability to operate under all conditions, including the most challenging ones.
“And, of course, we will accelerate the development of advanced systems for the Armed Forces,” he added.
Defender of the Fatherland Day, observed on Feb. 23 in Russia, honors military personnel and veterans.
As part of the holiday, Putin took part in several protocol events, including a ceremony during which he presented state awards to military personnel from the Defense Ministry and the National Guard.
