A major Russian overnight attack on Ukraine killed four people and wounded more than 30 others, Ukrainian officials said, as Moscow launched more than 660 drones and missiles in a barrage that targeted Dnipro and several other regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia bombarded Dnipro and other cities and communities through most of the night, with urban infrastructure among the main targets.
“Practically all night, the Russians bombed Dnipro and our other cities and communities,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
Two bodies were recovered from a building struck by Russia in Dnipro, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said.
Hanzha said five other people could still be trapped under the rubble. Another 21 people were wounded in the city, he said.
The southeastern city was one of the main targets of the overnight attack.
In the northern region of Chernihiv, missile and drone attacks killed two people and wounded seven others, the regional governor said.
The strikes came as Russia continued its pattern of nightly attacks on Ukraine, with smaller barrages of drones often followed by larger assaults involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 619 drones and 47 missiles in the attack.
In a statement on Telegram, the air force said Ukrainian defenses downed 580 drones and 30 missiles.
Zelenskyy called for urgent action from Ukraine’s partners, saying the strikes showed the need to strengthen air defenses quickly.
“Every strike like this must remind our partners that the situation needs immediate and firm action, rapid strengthening of our air defenses," he said.
