The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Türkiye and Indonesia strongly condemned Israel's announcement of appointing a diplomatic envoy to what was described as the "land of Somalia," calling it a flagrant violation of Somalia's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
In a joint statement issued on April 18, the ministers said the move represents a clear breach of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the unity and safety of its lands.
The statement was issued by the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of the Sudan, the State of Libya, the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Indonesia.
The ministers expressed their full rejection of all unilateral measures that affect the unity of states or undermine their sovereignty.
They stressed their firm and consistent support for the unity and territorial integrity of Somali lands, and for the institutions of the legitimate Somali state, describing them as the sole body expressing the will of the Somali people.
The statement reaffirmed backing for Somalia's sovereignty and emphasized that any actions undermining it are unacceptable.
The ministers said such measures constitute a clear violation of the principles of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
They said these actions represent a dangerous precedent that risks undermining stability in the Horn of Africa.
The statement added that such steps would negatively affect peace and security at both the regional and international levels.
The ministers reiterated their position that actions affecting Somalia's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity must be rejected and that support for the Somali state and its institutions remains essential.
