British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held separate talks Tuesday with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Ankara on joint defense procurement, support for Ukraine, and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The meetings took place at the British Residence on the sidelines of the NATO summit, according to statements released by the British Prime Minister's Office.

The talks focused on joint defense projects, defense spending, efforts to support Ukraine and security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Starmer, Jetten discuss maritime partnership

During his meeting with Jetten, Starmer welcomed a new British-Dutch maritime partnership, with both sides saying the initiative would strengthen NATO and support British shipbuilding.

Starmer also thanked the Netherlands for its contribution to the multinational mission aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The two leaders also discussed ways to finance major defense projects more effectively.

They addressed the Multilateral Defense Mechanism, a joint defense financing initiative, and said joint procurement could help aggregate demand, standardize equipment purchases and reduce costs.

Starmer, Store reaffirm support for Ukraine

In a separate meeting with Store, the leaders welcomed what they described as "strong unity" among NATO allies.

Starmer and Store reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and discussed how allies could continue providing Kyiv with the means to push back Russian forces.

The two leaders also exchanged views on efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz.

They agreed that joint procurement is important to ensure value for money in major defense projects.
