U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a presidential memorandum directing federal agencies to withdraw from 66 international organizations, with the White House saying the move is intended to protect U.S. national interests, security and sovereignty.
The memorandum, signed on Wednesday, orders executive departments and agencies to end both participation in and funding for a range of international bodies that the administration argues no longer serve American priorities.
According to the White House, the directive applies to 35 non-United Nations organizations and 31 U.N. entities.
The administration said these organizations operate contrary to U.S. national interests, economic prosperity, security or sovereignty.
The White House said the withdrawals follow a review ordered earlier this year of all international intergovernmental organizations involving the United States.
The administration argued that ending participation would halt U.S. taxpayer funding and involvement in entities it said promote globalist agendas over U.S. priorities.
Shortly after the White House released information on the presidential memorandum, the webpage detailing the decision was deleted.
No additional details were provided on the specific organizations affected, and the White House did not immediately issue further clarification following the removal of the page.
