U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could play a role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine while announcing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the White House on Friday (Oct. 17).
"Erdogan can," Trump told reporters on Air Force One en route to the White House from Egypt, when asked whether leaders, particularly Erdogan, could help in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"He's respected by Russia. Ukraine, I can't tell you about, but he is respected by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin," Trump said.
Trump said he gets along with the "tough ones," referring to Erdogan.
Trump said he would host Zelenskyy at the White House later this week.
"I think so, yeah," the U.S. president said as he traveled home from the Middle East, in response to a reporter's question about whether he would be hosting the Ukrainian leader at the White House on Friday.

Zelenskyy also stated that the Russian army continues to attack his country's energy infrastructure. "We expect problems with electricity.
After one or two attacks, we may have to import electricity," Zelenskyy said.
