Türkiye’s national defense minister said Türkiye-Cameroon relations are expected to reach much higher levels in the coming period based on mutual trust, shared interests and friendship.
Yasar Guler made the remarks at Cameroon’s National Day reception organized by the Cameroonian Embassy in Ankara, according to a statement from the Turkish National Defense Ministry.
“I sincerely believe that Türkiye-Cameroon relations will reach much higher levels in the coming period on the basis of mutual trust, common interests and friendship,” Gulersaid.
Gulerbegan his speech by conveying President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s greetings and congratulated the people of Cameroon on their National Day. He also wished Cameroon a future filled with peace, stability and prosperity.
The minister said this year’s National Day theme, “National Unity: The Backbone of a Strong Defense System and the Foundation of Cameroon’s Development,” was highly meaningful.
Gulersaid Türkiye and Cameroon have strong relations shaped by mutual respect, friendship and trust.
“Under the leadership of our president, our relations with the countries of the continent have gained great momentum in recent years within the framework of our Africa policy,” he said.
“Türkiye sees Africa as a strategic partner and develops its relations on the basis of mutual benefit and common development,” he added.
Gulersaid Cameroon holds a special place in this vision as one of Türkiye’s important friends and partners.
He said Türkiye was pleased with the development of relations between the two countries in political, military, economic, commercial, cultural and technical fields.
High-level contacts and institutional cooperation have contributed to strengthening ties day by day, he said.
Guleralso said Türkiye believes the existing potential in economic and commercial relations can be carried to much higher levels.
He noted that Turkish companies are contributing to Cameroon’s development goals and continuing work on new projects.
The minister also said Türkiye is pleased that young people from Cameroon are receiving education in various fields in Türkiye.
Gulersaid military and defense cooperation has become one of the developing and strengthening areas of relations between Türkiye and Cameroon.
“We are pleased that our contacts in the field of defense and security have intensified recently,” he said.
He said military training activities, personnel exchanges and institutional cooperation efforts are further strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
Guleralso referred to the visit by Cameroon’s Defense Minister Joseph Beti Assomo to Türkiye earlier this month.
He said the talks held during Assomo’s visit were highly productive and demonstrated determination and projects that would advance cooperation between the two countries.
Gulersaid the Military Financial Cooperation Agreement and the Cash Aid Implementation Protocol signed during the visit would make important contributions to the development of defense relations and the strengthening of friendship.
The minister said Türkiye considers sharing its defense and security experience with friendly countries such as Cameroon important for contributing to peace, stability and capacity-building efforts.
He thanked those who contributed to the development of cooperation between the two countries, especially the ambassador, and once again congratulated Cameroon on its National Day.
