United States Attorney General Pam Bondi informed President Donald Trump in May that his name appeared in Justice Department files related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Citing senior administration officials, the newspaper said Bondi and her deputy told Trump during a White House meeting that the files included many high-profile figures. Officials described much of the material as unverified hearsay about people, including Trump, who had socialized with Epstein.
They also informed Trump that senior Justice Department officials did not intend to release additional documents tied to the investigation because the files contained child pornography and victims’ personal information.
The story was published shortly after a federal court in Florida blocked the Justice Department’s effort to unseal grand jury records connected to Epstein on Wednesday.
The White House condemned the Wall Street Journal report as "fake news."
Separately, CNN released previously undisclosed archived video footage and photos Tuesday showing Trump’s relationship with Epstein.
Epstein died by suicide in his New York City jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Although his death was ruled a suicide, numerous conspiracy theories have circulated due to his ties to prominent public figures.
