Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had approved a new plan for long-range operations against targets in Russia in response to Russian attacks, as Kyiv works to expand its strike capabilities and improve defenses against Shahed-type drones.
Zelenskyy said on social media that he met representatives of Ukraine’s military and security forces and received updates on the latest developments along the front.
“I approved new long-range operations in response to Russian attacks,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine was continuing efforts to increase its ability to strike targets in Russia using long-range weapons.
The meeting also covered procedures for foreign volunteers seeking to join Ukraine’s defense forces and updates to legislation governing their military service.
Zelenskyy said work was continuing on weapons capable of intercepting Shahed-type attack drones, which he said Russia uses extensively in air attacks against Ukraine.
He said Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, chief Oleksandr Poklad briefed him on the latest developments.
“A new drone interception system has been developed and successfully used” on the front, Zelenskyy said. “Step by step, we are moving forward to provide Ukraine with greater protection.”
Zelenskyy also shared footage that he said showed an SBU interceptor weapon being used against Russian drones.
