Türkiye set to fine 700K house owners as crackdown on non-compliance begins
Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek Monday revealed that around 700,000 taxpayers generating rental income have yet to file their tax returns.
These individuals will have their details forwarded to tax offices for penalty actions. During the declaration period, 95,989 taxpayers reported ₺18.3 billion ($537,896,658.00) in tax base and ₺1.2 billion in tax.
Simsek highlighted the Revenue Administration’s (GIB) efforts, including sending SMS notifications to about 700,000 taxpayers and initiating inspections of 1.5 million properties.
Over 400,000 addresses checked
Over 400,000 addresses were checked, resulting in tax and penalty notices totaling approximately ₺153.4 million.
Following these measures, 46,000 taxpayers filed returns amounting to ₺200.7 million.
To streamline the process, GIB introduced a “Rental Notification Form” on its Digital Tax Office and Mobile app, with over 23,000 tenants submitting information.
Despite reminders sent to 1 million taxpayers, approximately 700,000 have not yet complied.
Their information will be sent to tax offices for further action.
