Apple is working with LG to develop a smart lock, a thermostat and a doorbell, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, a push into the connected home that appears aimed at rivals such as Amazon.

The devices are designed to work with Apple's upcoming smart home hub, which Bloomberg has reported will launch Oct. 13. The hub is expected to have a 6-inch square display that can sit on a countertop or be mounted on a wall.

More cameras and floodlight soon

The two companies are also working on a series of security cameras, including indoor and outdoor models, as well as a floodlight, according to the report.

The LG products are expected to be announced, though not necessarily released, next week.

Notably, the devices will reportedly carry the LG brand even though both companies helped develop them.

The products could be seen as a challenge to Amazon, whose smart home lineup includes a range of similar devices, among them Ring's home security cameras.

The partnership is part of Apple's wider effort to expand into new product areas with its recent hardware releases, including a larger presence in the smart home.
