Binance TR, the Türkiye-based platform of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, said on Friday that all user assets on its platform are secure and that only crypto asset withdrawals have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.
In a notice dated Oct. 30, 2026, shared on its X account, the company said the security of its users is its top priority. It said all other account functions, including trading, Turkish lira deposits and withdrawals, and crypto asset deposits, continue uninterrupted.
“All user assets on Binance TR are secure, and services on our platform are continuing without interruption,” the company said in a separate post, adding that it continues to rigorously maintain its security protocols.
Binance TR said its teams are working around the clock to complete all necessary steps in the safest and most thorough manner possible. The company said it will keep users informed through its official channels, and its customer service team is available 24/7.
The announcements come after Binance said on Thursday that it had suffered a security incident that may have begun when attackers gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer, an employee who manages software development and technical operations. The company said it had found no evidence that any wallet private keys were leaked.
Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks were carried out and said it was working with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets. About $3 billion has been frozen on-chain so far, according to the company.
The exchange said all losses would be covered through its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), an emergency reserve, and company funds, stressing that user funds remained safe. It also said it would publish an updated Proof of Reserves, a report showing it holds enough assets to cover user balances, once recovery efforts are completed, and release a detailed technical post-mortem after its investigation ends.
Blockchain intelligence firm TRM assessed with “high confidence” that the attack, which stole about $6.3 billion, was carried out by North Korea’s TraderTraitor hacking unit, which investigators have linked to the Lazarus Group, a state-backed hacking network. If confirmed, it would be the largest crypto theft on record.
Ari Redbord, TRM’s global head of policy, described the attack as “unprecedented” and a “watershed.” “When North Korea steals at this scale, the money funds weapons proliferation and other destabilizing activity,” he told Al Jazeera. “That makes this a global security issue, not just a crypto theft.”
Binance founder and largest shareholder Changpeng Zhao had earlier said the exchange appeared to have been hacked. The company revoked authorization for the affected address and contacted law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the funds.
