Counterfeit alcohol takes life of prominent Turkish businessman Riza Kalkavan

Prominent Turkish businessman, Riza Kalkavan, the brother of famous actress Billur Kalkavan, died Dec. 26 shortly after consuming counterfeit alcohol he had purchased from a business in Ortakoy, Istanbul, while having dinner.

He reportedly lost his vision prior to being taken into intensive care at a local hospital where he past away. An official cause of death is yet to be determined following the autopsy.

The 59-year-old had made a successful career in maritime shipping, a well established family business he had inherited. The Kalkavans are a well respected Turkish business family.
