Internet use among Turkish citizens between the ages of 16 and 74 rose to 92.3% this year, up from 90.9% previously, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Wednesday.
Men used the internet more than women, at 94.8% compared to 89.9%. Men also used online public services more than women, at 82.7% compared to 69.4%, out of the 76% of total individuals who accessed government portals and applications.
Usage of the e-Government (e-Devlet) portal, which hosts public administration services, varied by age group. It peaked at 93% among citizens aged 25 to 34 and decreased to 31.3% for those aged 65 to 74.
Regarding specific activities on the platform, accessing personal records from public agencies accounted for 65.6%, booking appointments with public institutions stood at 52.6%, and requesting information from public entities made up 45.7%.
E-commerce activity increased during the period, with 60% of Turkish internet users purchasing goods or services online for personal use, up from 55.7% the previous year. Within this group, 48.3% of individuals made an online purchase within the three months preceding the survey.
Online learning also saw growth, as the share of users engaging in educational, professional, or personal training activities rose 5.2 percentage points year on year to 22.9%. Female participation in these digital learning activities stood at 23.5%, while male participation was recorded at 22.4%.
Regarding communication preferences, WhatsApp remained the primary social media and messaging application with a 90% usage rate. YouTube followed at 77.6%, while Instagram secured the third position at 71.1%.
Women used WhatsApp the most, at 87.6%, followed by YouTube at 75% and Instagram at 70.2%, while men also used WhatsApp the most, at 92.5%. The rates for YouTube and Instagram were 80.1% and 71.9%, respectively.
Regarding internet-connected infrastructure, smart televisions led household adoption with a 62% share. Smart home appliances, including automated devices such as robot vacuums, accounted for 18.6%.
Smartwatches and network-connected wearables—such as fitness trackers, smart glasses, headphones, and security monitoring devices—followed with a 16.7% share.
