Royal Navy's Falklands War veteran HMS Bristol to be scrapped in Aliaga, Türkiye

Decommissioned in October 2020, the U.K. 's vessel is now set to be scrapped at , , a major global hub for ship recycling.

Two Turkish companies, Leyal Gemi Sokum and Sok Denizcilik, have acquired the vessel for dismantling. also received a bid from Leyal Gemi Sokum and Sok Denizcilik according to the U.K. Defence Ministry statement.

Aliaga: Hub for iconic ships

Aliaga's shipbreaking yards have previously dismantled renowned vessels, including cruise ships like the Pacific Princess. HMS Bristol will join this lineup as it makes its final voyage.

HMS Bristol: A historic vessel from Falklands War

The HMS Bristol, launched in 1969 and commissioned in 1973, played a crucial role in the Royal Navy's operations. Designed as a Type 82 destroyer, it was equipped with advanced weapons systems to escort aircraft carriers, including Sea Dart anti-aircraft missiles and Ikara anti-submarine systems.

HMS Bristol served as the flagship during the 1982 , commanding critical operations in the conflict.

Despite its accomplishments, HMS Bristol suffered multiple boiler explosions, first in 1974 and later in 1984. Repairs ensured the ship remained functional, but it was removed from active combat service and repurposed as a training vessel.
