Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) reserves fell $3.8 billion in the week ending Oct. 2 to $167.4 billion, while foreign investors sold $734.6 million in Turkish assets, according to the official figures.
Gross foreign exchange reserves fell $1.2 billion to $60.3 billion from $61.6 billion a week earlier. Gold reserves dropped $2.6 billion to $107.1 billion. Net reserves rose $407 million to $53.7 billion, while net reserves excluding swaps fell $2 billion to $37.8 billion.
Foreign investors sold $189.9 million in equities, $484.7 million in government bonds and $60 million in other securities during the week ending Oct. 2, bringing total sales across the three asset classes to $734.6 million.
The value of their equity holdings fell to $36.8 billion from $38.9 billion, while government bond holdings dropped to $16.7 billion from $17.1 billion. Holdings of other securities slipped to $3.6 billion from $3.6 billion. Across the three categories, the total value of foreign investors’ holdings fell by about $2.6 billion.
Foreigners also scaled back Turkish lira derivative transactions with local banks. The value of those transactions fell $2.5 billion to $56.6 billion, the lowest level since July, according to Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) data.
Total bank deposits fell 0.6% in the week ending Oct. 2, declining by ₺216.8 billion ($4.4 billion) to ₺33.8 trillion ($686.8 billion).
Foreign-currency deposits totaled $266.7 billion, with domestic residents holding $228.5 billion. After adjusting for exchange-rate effects, residents’ foreign-currency deposits rose by $851.1 million during the week.
Consumer loans moved in the opposite direction, rising 1.2% over the week to ₺7 trillion.
